Crafternoons at SoHo Mid Semester Update

Dear Families,

We have been having a blast in our teeny tiny Crafternoons class this semester! With so few children, I have been able to bring in more materials, and offer more challenging crafts because I can give each child so much individual attention.

Each class, I bring in a story to read, and then we do a craft related to the book. So far we have read, Where the Wild Things Are (wild thing crowns), The Very Hungry Caterpillar (egg carton caterpillars), Dragons Love Tacos (hand puppet dragons with tacos), Guess How Much I Love You (mail-able hugs), Goodnight Moon (‘bunny tail’ pompoms), A House For Hermit Crab (hand print hermit crabs) and The Night Kitchen (clay creations). It is so exciting to see each student expressing themselves through colorful choices and artistic designs of their projects!

Everyone is so engaged a calm in class that I always have to bring extra activities as they move so quickly! Particularly with more difficult projects like the pompoms, I was very proud of everyone’s perseverance to complete the project. While a couple children were unsure during the activity, everyone was so happy with their final pompom, and it was certainly a good lesson in ‘hard work pays off’. We will continue to explore creativity through more books as the semester continues!

Warmly,

Ms. Sabina, Curated Care Teacher
