Dazzling Discoveries
Poly Prep
Spring 2025
Dear Families,
In Dazzling Discoveries, students spend time learning how the natural world and science interact and conduct experiments to test these ideas.
For our first project, we discussed rain, why some materials get wet in the rain, and why others keep us dry. Each student then created their own ‘rain boot’ and tested different materials to see if they were water-resistant or waterproof. Other projects have included discussing oil and water separation and why oil is difficult to clean up in the ocean, what types of 3d structures we see in nature and whether we can construct them using marshmallows and toothpicks, and what the word biodegradable means and created biodegradable play dough from kitchen ingredients.
For our next project, we will focus on creating a ‘tornado’ in a bottle and learning how thunderstorms and wet and dry air can cause tornadoes. Students have been creative in their ideas about science and nature and continue to do a great job working together!
Best,
Erin, Curated Care teacher
