Dear Families, 

The future of STEM lays in the hands of the students of Poly Prep! Join us as we explore the vast world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

For the first half of this semester we have been focusing heavily on Technology and Engineering, as we have grown to find out rely heavily on one another. Our adventures started with getting to know what STEM is and how we use it in our everyday lives. Students quickly realized that almost everything that they interact with in their daily lives has something to do with STEM. From the trains that they take everyday, to the structure of the building that they come to learn in.

We started with one of my personal favorite’s growing up, making paper airplanes. We learned how precise and intricate each fold had to be in our to make our airplanes as aerodynamic as possible. We next made building structures out to wooden sticks. This was a fun and yet challenging activity that took alot of preparing and planning before each structure would be glued and stapled into place. We rounded out the first half of the semester by building LEGO structures. This activity gave the kiddos free range to explore their imagination and create individualized pieces that were significant to them.

I am very excited to begin our scientific experiments as the semester continues, and learn how math is the cornerstone for almost everything that we do in STEM!
