Podcasting for Beginners
Turning Point School
Spring 2025
Dear Families,
In Podcasting for Beginners, our class has been busy turning big ideas into sound waves! Our main goal for the semester is to brainstorm, write, and record a podcast from scratch - and let me tell you, the students have jumped in with both feet (and plenty of volume). We start each session by eating a snack and listening to a children’s podcast. From comedic storytelling to learning which foods were discovered by mistake, we’ve explored different podcast formats to spark ideas and learn what makes a great episode tick.
After that, it’s time to get creative! The students have worked together to narrow down what their podcast will be about, what format it will follow, and who will take on which roles. There’s been a ton of discussion, lots of passionate opinions, and even a few friendly debates - but ultimately, they’re creating something that includes a little piece of everyone. One of the best parts of class so far has been watching the students learn to compromise and collaborate, turning a bunch of wild ideas into one awesome show.
We're thrilled to officially announce the title of our podcast: TPS Talkers! With a rough script in place, we’re heading into the next exciting phase of our project. Over the coming weeks, we’ll rehearse, record, and edit our episode. Then, we’ll celebrate with a special listening party to premiere the final cut during our last class.
It’s been such a joy to see these students become storytellers and creative collaborators. We can’t wait for you to hear what they’ve been working on—stay tuned!
Best,
Darika Fuhrmann, Curated Care Teacher
