Kitchen Chemistry
Sacred Heart
Winter 2025
Dear Families,
I hope you are having a beautiful day! Thank you for entrusting us with your little-ones for our incredible Kitchen Chemistry course. Working with your kiddos has been a true delight. We have a class full of energetic, silly, and curious students. Who knows, maybe one day they will become Kitchen Chemists themselves due to the seed planted from this class. Kitchen Chemistry is all about learning through edible experiments, lessons on nutrition, and teaching simple cooking skills or recipes. Students are gaining an understanding of the science behind what they eat, while participating in hands-on projects each week.
A typical day in the life of this course starts with mid-day check-ins, such as seeing what made them smile today or asking if they learned anything fun today. Then we proceed to play a game related to the upcoming project at hand. Afterwards, we dive into the main task- while using good etiquette (washing hands, not making a mess, saying “please” and “thank you” etc). At the end of the day, we have a scientific group discussion, possibly play another game and then wind down to go home!
One special project in particular was making their very own pizzas! I was very impressed with how well they exemplified teamwork (sharing is caring, after all)! Throughout class, I noticed how they made an effort for decisions to be unanimous, which truly warmed my heart. As the semester progresses, I have noticed all the children gain more of a curiosity in science and cooking.
That being said, we still have many fun endeavors to come! I am excited to exemplify being a “mad scientist” in the following weeks. Thank you for raising such wonderful kids!
Best,
